In my church, this traditional hymn is sung during the offertory. As we present our lives before God our Father, together with the bread and wine, I find the words of this hymn aptly describing our desire to jointly offer some poor/unworthy part of our wretched lives together with the Eucharistic Sacrifice. Unworthy though our lives and offerings may be, but when Our Lord Jesus, made fully present in the bread and wine, He will unite all things , the whole world , its joy and pains, and our little sacrifices of the week, together with His own earthly life and death on the cross , and transform it into the perfect sacrifice that God our Father lovingly embrace.
In the same spirit of humility and knowledge of my unworthy production, may the Spirit sanctify this music and transform it to something He can use for the world.
